Despite many of their modern entries being somewhat by-the-numbers, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise continues to be a massive part of the publisher’s portfolio. As part of the company’s recent Fall 2026 franchise update, the team at Ubisoft announced that 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to receive a surprise update in celebration of the game’s latest milestone – having officially surpassed 40 million total players.
During the team’s latest franchise update (where-in they confirmed that there are currently no AC remakes in the works), Ubisoft revealed that one of the franchise’s most maligned releases – Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – continues to attract millions of new players, writing:
“Assassin's Creed Valhalla recently surpassed 40 million players and, to celebrate, we're bringing one of the community's most requested features: the (very, very, very) long-awaited New Game+, arriving November 5.”
Of course, 40 million players does not equate to 40 million copies sold, especially as Valhalla has been playable across a multitude of services including but not limited to PlayStation Plus and the publisher’s own Ubisoft+ subscription platform.
Still, for a game which is deemed by many to be one of Assassin’s Creed’s weakest entries (mired by a bloat of content and minimal opportunities to roleplay as an actual assassin), 40 million players is a massive figure.
Assuming Valhalla’s 100+ hour experience wasn’t enough for you, the new game+ mode introduces a suite of additions, including:
- New runes
- A stash system
- New rewards / cosmetics
- Mithril – “a new resource to upgrade Divine Gear and strengthen runes”
Additionally, the team announced that the upcoming patch will bring with it “current-generation console updates”. Given the fact that Valhalla already has a native current-gen release, it will be interesting to see what exactly is added. Official PS5 Pro support perhaps? We won’t have to wait long to find out.
