Since the arrival of their last game all the way back in 2019, we’ve heard very little from Sony’s Bend Studio, with the most recent reports claiming that the team were at one point working on a live-service title which was ultimately cancelled – leading to nearly a 3rd of the studio’s workforce being laid off. Despite this, the team appear to have been working hard on another new project, with reports claiming that Sony Bend’s next title is set to be announced and released in 2027.
As reported by the publication mp1st, despite having their previous live-service game cancelled by Sony, the Days Gone team at Bend Studio are currently in the advanced stages of development on an entirely new project.
Though early details remain light, according to the report, Sony Bend is currently planning to unveil their new game some time in 2027. That’s not all however, with the publication claiming that this title is also scheduled to launch next year, owing to it being “much further along in development” than some might expect.
That said, little else is known about the title as of right now, with the only other ‘confirmed’ details being the fact that it will be an entirely new IP which utilises a 3rd-person perspective, alongside some form of co-op functionality (though the extent of this remains unknown).
Though Days Gone failed to match the highs of other first-party PlayStation offerings critically, the open-world shooter did manage to be a commercial success in the long-run, with the infamous Insomniac Games leak revealing that the title had reached nearly 7.5 million copies sold as of early 2022.
While leaked details on the live-service ‘Project Mirror Pond’ did show some promise, it is encouraging to see that its cancellation appears to have not set the team back too much. Still, with Days Gone nearing 8 years old, it is high time we got to see something new from the studio.
