Final Fantasy XIV players will have to wait a little longer for Evercold. Square Enix has delayed the MMORPG's next expansion from its planned January release window, pushing the launch back by a few weeks to the 23rd of February 2027.
Speaking during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival (via MMORPG), producer and director Naoki Yoshida explained that the team had been pushing to meet its original target, but ultimately needed additional time to hit the quality bar expected for a major expansion release.
Yoshida said he personally made the decision to delay the launch, despite the project being relatively close to its original schedule. Players who pre-order Evercold from the 4th of November will gain access to the expansion's early access period, which begins on the 19th of February.
A delay of just a few weeks may not seem significant, but it means Evercold is moving from what looked like a relatively quiet January launch window into an increasingly crowded February. The expansion will now release alongside new entries for some of the gaming industry's biggest franchises, including titles like Fable, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and God of War Laufey, all of which are currently targeting February launches of their own.
