Moon Studios head says “Ori 3 rumors are nonsense”

A rumour circulated over the weekend claiming that Microsoft had quietly greenlit a sequel to Ori and the Will of the Wisps, with development supposedly handed to another studio. However, Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler has now dismissed the speculation, stating that “the Ori 3 rumors are nonsense”.

The rumour originated on Resetera, where a poster suggested that Microsoft was moving ahead with a new Ori title without Moon Studios’ involvement, allegedly partnering with Saber Interactive for development. However, the source of this rumour has little established track record, so it is unclear how the rumour ended up gaining as much traction as it did.

Mahler addressed the rumour directly on X, writing that “the Ori 3 rumors are nonsense” and adding that even Gareth Coker, composer for the first two Ori games, had not heard anything about a sequel being developed. Mahler also replied to a fan, saying Moon Studios would “do it in a heartbeat” if Microsoft gave them the go‑ahead for a third Ori game.

For now, Moon Studios remains focused on No Rest for the Wicked, its action RPG currently in Early Access. The game is scheduled to reach version 1.0 in October on PC and PS5, with other console platforms to follow. During its time in Early Access, No Rest for the Wicked has sold over 2 million copies.
