Helldivers 2 launched last year as a PlayStation console exclusive, and as the PC version is also published by PlayStation, it was widely assumed that the game would never come to Xbox. That changed this week with a surprise announcement, but while Helldivers 2 will be on Xbox moving forward, it won't be coming to Game Pass.
Helldivers 2 for Xbox Series X/S consoles will be available starting on August 26th. However, the game will not be coming to Game Pass, now, or perhaps ever.
As reported by Videogamer, Arrowhead's Community Manager responded to fans asking about a Game Pass release in the official Helldivers 2 Discord server. To one fan, they wrote “definitely not” when asked if the game would be available through Game Pass, and later added that there are “no plans” to ever bring the game to Microsoft's subscription service.
Whether or not that stance changes in the future is anyone's guess. For its part, Microsoft does support Sony's competing PlayStation Plus subscription service with various games. Somewhere down the line, if it makes business sense for Sony to put the game on both services, I wouldn't rule it out.
KitGuru Says: A whole new class of Helldivers are about to be recruited into the ranks, which is a great thing. I don't think we need to water down that fact by focusing on the game not being available as a Game Pass freebie.
