Phil Spencer says more Xbox IP will be showing up in TV and film

After many years in development, the Minecraft movie is finally coming out in April. Microsoft is hoping to have a hit on its hands after the failure of the Halo TV series, but Xbox head, Phil Spencer, is making it clear that either way, more Xbox IP will be heading to TV and film in the future.

In a recent interview with Variety (via VGC), Phil Spencer, CEO of gaming at Microsoft, we learned a bit more about Microsoft's future plans for Hollywood productions. Currently, the Xbox team is still “learning and growing” in this industry, as we know from the various issues with the Halo TV series, contrasted by the incredible fan-pleasing moments of the Fallout show. Hopefully the Minecraft movie can keep things trending in the right direction.

“We learned from doing Halo. We learned from doing Fallout. So all of these build on themselves. Obviously, we’ll have a couple that miss. But what I’d say to the Xbox community that likes this work is you’re going to see more, because we’re gaining confidence and we’re learning through this.”

The Minecraft movie has been in production since 2015 but the project struggled with keeping a director attached, with many coming in and eventually passing on the film. It finally debuts in cinemas on the 4th of April.

In other news, Fallout Season 2 has finished filming, so we should get more news on the next season in the months ahead.

KitGuru Says: You could see during the transition from Season 1 to Season 2 for Halo that many changes for the better had been made. Unfortunately, the show was ultimately cancelled, so we'll never see that promise fulfilled. What other Xbox-owned IP do you think would work for a TV series or a movie?
