Over the past two years, many studios across the industry have had to undergo layoffs, leading to thousands of developers needing to find new work. Unfortunately, things aren't turning around in 2025 just yet. This time around, Crytek has announced a round of layoffs.
Following on from last year's launch of Hunt: Showdown 1896, Crytek has announced that it is letting go of around 15 percent of its workforce. The company is estimated to employ 400 people, so around 60 people are set to lose their jobs.

Crytek says that “unfavourable market dynamics” have led to this conclusion. The layoffs will be split up between development teams and Crytek's shared services team. The company says that is already attempted other cost-cutting measures but ultimately, layoffs were “inevitable”.
Fans of Hunt: Showdown have no need to worry though, as Crytek is “fully committed” to keeping the game alive and expanding it with new content. The studio is also still working on perfecting the CryEngine, and a new Crysis game is also in development.
KitGuru Says: It is always a shame to see layoffs, but hopefully things can turn around for Crytek. The latest major game using CryEngine, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, just launched, which should drive some revenue, and Hunt: Showdown still remains popular. Hopefully a Crysis 4 update will come through later this year too.
