CD Projekt Red confirmed that The Witcher 4 was ramping up, with more resources being dedicated to the project now that Cyberpunk 2077 development has wound down. At this point, the new game is being “intensively worked on”, and work on Cyberpunk 2 at CDPR's new US studio is also in the early stages.
In a recent update, CD Projekt Red's Pawel Sasko told Aftermath that Polaris, the codename for the next Witcher game, is being “intensively worked on”, while Orion, the codename for the next Cyberpunk game, is in the “fairly early stages”. This lines up with CD Projekt Red's most recent investor update, in which it confirmed that Polaris was now the biggest project at the company, with the most resources now dedicated to it.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red is still building up its new studio in the US, where the next Cyberpunk game will be developed. Based on how things are going so far, we will be seeing The Witcher 4 well before the next Cyberpunk game. CD Projekt Red has also expressed a desire for the next Witcher game to kick off a new trilogy, so we should be in for plenty more stories from that world in the years ahead.
Aside from a Cyberpunk sequel and a new mainline Witcher game, CD Projekt Red also has multiple other games in the works, including a remake of The Witcher 1, and a Witcher multiplayer spin-off.
KitGuru Says: With Cyberpunk 2077 completing its redemption arc in 2023, everyone is going to be eagerly awaiting CDPR's next big game. Still, just because a lot of people are working on something doesn't mean it will be finished any faster. We should still expect to wait a few years before seeing this game in action.
