New AGESA 1.1.7.0 update enables support for upcoming AMD Granite Ridge CPUs

Asus recently released a BIOS update for two of its motherboards, the ROG Crosshair X670E and ROG Strix X670E. This update brings support for DDR5 memory modules of up to 256GB and the AGESA update 1.1.7.0, which introduces support for the upcoming Zen 5-based Granite Ridge CPUs from AMD.

According to the posts on the HardwareLuxx and Asus ROG forums (via HXL), the new beta BIOS (2003) update featuring the AGESA “1170-FireRange-Pi” microcode is now available to download for seven Asus ROG motherboards: ROG Crosshair X670E Hero, ROG Crosshair X670E Gene, ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme, ROG Strix X670E-A Gaming Wifi, ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming Wi-Fi, ROG Strix X670E-F Gaming Wi-Fi, and ROG Strix X670E-I Gaming Wi-Fi.

It's worth noting that the Fire Range is a next-generation mobile platform built on desktop Granite Ridge silicon. AMD's next-generation desktop CPU range, known as Granite Ridge, is being developed for the AM5 socket.

The AGESA 1.1.7.0 update introduces support for Granite Ridge processors with CPUID 00B40Fxx. This update follows AMD's last firmware upgrade, which introduced support for the Ryzen 8000G series APUs based on the Phoenix architecture. Notably, the first software supporting these APUs was provided five months before their release in January 2024.

If we look at the timing of the Ryzen 8000G AGESA updates, it's likely that the AMD Granite Ridge CPUs will be introduced relatively soon. AMD has previously stated that it will have a keynote at Computex 2024, where the company usually announces new desktop products.

KitGuru says: With these new BIOS updates now available, anyone who can grab a Granite Ridge CPU sample should be able to test it. As such, it shouldn't take long before we see the first benchmark results of these new CPUs.
