Alan Wake 2 officially launches tomorrow and it sounds like Remedy has cooked up an end-of-year hit. Reviews for the game went live today, the latest game to achieve a 90+ overall rating.
2023 was already a pretty stacked year for highly-rated games, with titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Spider-Man 2, Starfield, Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo 4, Hi-Fi Rush, Hogwarts Legacy and many others all scoring highly. Alan Wake 2 is the latest to join the list of critical hits. Currently, the game's overall score on Metacritic sits at 89 for the PS5 version, but the very technically impressive PC version has scored even higher, with a 92 overall rating based on close to as many total reviews. There is not currently an overall score available for the Xbox version.
Over on OpenCritic, we see a similar story, with the game earning an 89 average score and a Mighty rating, ranking it amongst the best games of the year so far.
Alan Wake 2 launches tomorrow for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. On PC, players will benefit from not just ray-tracing, but a full path-tracing option as well for even better visuals. If you want to crank the settings all the way up, you will need a high-end rig, however. Path Tracing in particular will require DLSS 3 with frame generation to reach high frame rates, a feature that is only available on RTX 40 series graphics cards.
KitGuru Says: I was probably going to hold off on Alan Wake 2 for a bit but the game seems to be getting extremely high praise, so I may jump in earlier than planned. Are any of you picking this one up over the weekend?
