BioWare announces job cuts in effort to become ‘more focused’

We've known that BioWare has been working on a new Dragon Age game for a few years now but despite a couple of teasers, we've yet to see any gameplay or receive any concrete details about the game. We still don't have an update on when the game will be coming out, but BioWare is going through a round of job cuts in an effort to become a “more focused” studio.

In a new blog post, BioWare GM, Gary McKay, announced a restructuring of the studio as part of an effort to become “a more agile and more focused studio”. McKay says that these changes aren't just necessary but “unavoidable”. As a result, around 50 roles at BioWare will be cut, but those affected will have opportunities to move to other teams within EA that may need additional development power.

BioWare claims the move will balance out the current needs of the studio, as it continues to work on its next two major game releases – Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and the next Mass Effect.

Speaking of those two projects, the blog post says that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is still making progress and BioWare leadership is “confident” that it will “have the time needed” to ensure the game reaches its full potential. The next Mass Effect game is still in pre-production under a team led by Mike Gamble.

KitGuru Says: EA announced a round of lay-offs across the publisher earlier this year so it is possible that these changes at BioWare are tied to that.
