Baldur’s Gate III has quickly become the new hotness, with the Larian Studios-developed RPG amassing a concurrent player count of over 800,000 upon its launch – almost 10x more than the studio expected. The wins don’t stop there however, as it has now been revealed that almost a 3rd of all Steam play time last weekend was dedicated to Baldur’s Gate III.
As reported by industry analyst Mat Piscatella, on Sunday the 6th of August (3 days after its 1.0 launch) Baldur’s Gate III accounted for 27.5% of all Steam users’ play time. While surprising in its own right, this fact is even more impressive when considering that second place went to CS:GO – with just 5% of play time.
Of course, it is worth noting that this statistic pertains only to the US, but it is safe to say that Baldur’s Gate III has managed to attract a universal appeal. Total play time since then has remained rather steady, with Baldur’s Gate III continuing to top players’ time – though ever so slightly less so.
The rapid rise of Baldur’s Gate III has been interesting to witness, especially as the game was available in Early access previously. Regardless, it is safe to say that both Baldur’s Gate and Larian Studios have reached new echelons in the minds of players.
