Today, CD Projekt Red has given a much needed update on the status of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for next-gen consoles, as well as the upcoming next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077. While both titles were set to be released this year, both projects have now been delayed to the first half of 2022.
In an announcement made this afternoon, CD Projekt confirmed that after taking on recommendations from the development teams of both games, extra time has now been allocated, pushing the release dates for both projects to 2022.
Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 will be arriving first, scheduled for “the first quarter of 2022”. Meanwhile, the new version of The Witcher 3, which is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC, will be scheduled to release in “the second quarter of 2022”.
With that in mind, we can expect Cyberpunk 2077 on next-gen before the end of March next year, while The Witcher 3 will get its next-gen and PC update between April and the end of June.
KitGuru Says: While I had doubts that Cyberpunk 2077 would make it to next-gen consoles this year, I didn’t have any bets on The Witcher 3’s patch being delayed. Still, if more time is needed for development, then the right thing to do is to grant that extra time.
