Xbox and Kojima Productions reportedly finalising publishing agreement for new game

Prior to Google Stadia shutting down all game development and publishing efforts, Hideo Kojima had approached the company in hopes of releasing an episodic horror game on the platform. Now, all signs indicate that Xbox will be working with Kojima Productions on this game instead.

According to VentureBeat, Hideo Kojima and Microsoft have now signed a letter of intent to enter a publishing deal. The deal will see Xbox Game Studios publishing Kojima’s next game and provide funding for the independent studio.

This deal has reportedly been in the works for months and while it has yet to be officially announced, it seems that both sides have now agreed to work together. This news follows on from Microsoft’s recent hiring of Portal designer, Kim Swift, to oversee cloud-based game partnerships. Kojima’s title could end up being the very first ‘cloud native’ game from Xbox,

While Kojima Productions may end up working with Xbox for a while, it is unlikely that anything in this deal will prohibit the studio from working with Sony again in the future, or working on multiple projects simultaneously.

KitGuru Says: We still know very little about the game Kojima wants to build and there has been no official announcement for this deal, so things could still change. Either way though, it is going to be very interesting to see what Kojima comes up with next following on from Death Stranding.
