Back in February, CD Projekt Red suffered a major cyberattack, with hackers getting away with source code for all of the studio’s major games, as well as copies of internal documents. Now, those stolen files appear to be leaking publicly.
As reported by Data Breaches, CD Projekt Red’s stolen assets have begun appearing on public sites for the first time. The leak includes source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its upcoming ‘next-gen’ enhanced edition and GWENT. The leak also appears to include the SDK files for multiple major consoles, including the PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch.
Those downloading the public torrent currently can’t access all the files, however, as the archive is password protected. It is reported that the leakers do intend to release the password soon via an onion URL.
This seems to confirm reports from back in February, which claimed the original hackers had sold the stolen files in an auction.
KitGuru Says: Assuming the files do get unlocked, this is going to cause more legal headaches for CD Projekt Red. Currently, investigations are still ongoing into the source of the attack but the culprits have not been found yet.
